An unidentified soldier dressed for cold winter weather.
In addition to the winter scene painted backdrop, the photographer produced an interesting "special effect" with the simulated snowfall. This was achieved by spattering paint on the surface of the image probably by drawing his thumb across a stiff brush that had been dipped in the paint.
It is possible that this soldier was a member of the 2nd Battalion, the Duke of Wellington's West Riding Regiment which was stationed in Halifax, Nova Scotia during this time period.
