A classic 1860s vintage hand-colored tintype photograph of a young member of an unknown Canadian militia battalion. Note the heavy cord trousers worn by this soldier. Although the gold paint that was used to pick out details of the young man's uniform obscured the regimental badge on his cap is appears to be a Canadian Militia General service shako plate. It is a superb example of a very early Canadian military photograph.
