Depicting a Dutch soldier, probably a member of the Schutterij militia, the carte de visite was part of a series depicting Dutch colonial troops in the East Indies that was created by the photographic team of Woodbury & Page. The series recorded European and local native troops who policed Holland's East Indian colonies in the late 1860s and early 1870s
