A rare hand colored portrait of an unidentified private that has been beautifully tinted by the photographic studio.

Unfortunately, this same coloring has obscured the regimental color badges that would have helped in more positively identifying this soldier's regiment. The gold coloured cap and collar badges seem to indicate a light infantry regiment and details of these coupled with the blue tunic facings and the Bristol location make me believe that this man was a member of Prince Albert's (Somersetshire Light Infantry).

There has been minor loss to the red colouring of the soldier's tunic which is of the 1881 pattern.
