Looking like someone's kindly old grandfather (he could very well have been), this elderly gentleman wears the medallic symbol of his service many years before in the great
Indian Mutiny of 1857-58. He also wears what may be a regimental badge on his lapel to complement his campaign medal. The badge is unfortunately somewhat overexposed so its
exact nature cannot quite be made out.
