Presently unidentified, this British officer of an Indian cavalry regiment was a veteran of the China Relief Expedition/Boxer Rebellion of 1900. He wears the 1900 China War Medal with a single clasp that in all likelihood read "Relief of Pekin".
Only one Indian cavalry regiment took part in the expedition, the 1st Bengal Cavalry (Skinner's Horse), though the visible uniform elements of this officer do not appear to match those of the 1st Bengal. A number of officers from other Indian cavalry regiments were attached to the expedition and this man appears to be on of those seconded officers.
