Italian Soldier Tripoli.png

An early 20th Century cabinet-style photograph of an Italian infantryman taken in Tripoli, Libya during the Italian occupation of that port city.

He is armed with the Vetterli Vitali Model 1870/87 rifle and seems to be wearing the
standard-issue Italian field uniform of that period which was worn during the 1911 Italo-Turkish War in Libya. In the field, the cloth forage cap was replaced by a white tropical-pattern helmet.
