A seldom seen image of what appears to be a Bavarian military cyclist/dispatch rider. He wears a smock-type tunic with no regimental insignia so perhaps his was a staff-type position.
He carries a leather dispatch/map case which is attached to his waist belt. A carbine is slung over the other shoulder. He also wears a shortened bayonet on his belt and a single
reverse-opening cartridge box. As opposed to the more commonly seen boots worn by most German troops, this cyclist wears laced-up canvas leggings to protect his lower legs.
