A French private of the 415° régiments de marche du levant,  photographed in February 1919 in Beirut, Syria (Lebanon) when the regiment had just landed to take up occupation duties.

The man wears the Croix de Guerre with citation star and the fourragè designating a unit-wide  award of the same decoration.  He would have earned these distinctions during the recently ended Great War.
