Polish bass Édouard de Reszke costumed as Hagen in Götterdämmerung performed at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City.

Édouard de Reszke was born in Warsaw in 1853 and studied under Filippo Coletti and Giovanni Sbriglia. He made his stage debut as the King of Egypt in the first Paris performance of
Giuseppe Verdi's Aida in 1876. He often appeared with his older brother tenor Jean de Reszke.  He appeared regularly in London, Paris, and New York in a career that lasted until
1903 when due to a failing voice he retired.

 

He died at Garnek. Poland on May 25, 1917
