Drummer F. Hayter of the Suffolk Regiment. Most likely he belonged to the 2nd Battalion which was stationed in Secunderabad, British India during 1894. He is identified by the simple pen inscription "F. Hayter" on the reverse. He wears a single Long Service & Good Conduct Stripe for two years of service on his left sleeve.
Although no service papers have been found for Drummer F. Hayter after repeated searches he may be the Frederick Hayter who married Miss Daisy Kathleen Anderson in India in 1903. She was born in India but little else has been found concerning this couple. Some evidence seems to indicate that the married Frederick Hayter was in fact a member of the 5th Dragoon Guards and not the Suffolk Regiment at all.
