Drummer Gordons.png

This drummer of the Gordon Highlanders wears full home service Highland uniform, something probably not often seen in tropical India. Unfortunately, his chosen headwear of the day was not included in the photograph.

He displays a four clasped Queen's South Africa Medal and the double clasped Kings South Africa Medal for his service in the Anglo-Boer War. The left cuff of his doublet bears two good conduct stripes.

He would have been a member of the Gordon's 2nd battalion. Both the 1st and 2nd battalions served in the Anglo-Boer War, with the 1st returning home at conflicts end and the 2nd deploying to British India and remaining there until around 1910.
