347 & 349 Edgware Rd. W., London, England
c. 1905
With touches of the old and new, this young rifle volunteer seems to have been a member of a school's cadet corps possibly associated with one of the City of London Rifle volunteer units. He wears a Edward VII school attendance medal on his chest.
His rifle gray uniform hearkens back to the early days of the rifle volunteer movement while his visored cap was of the most recently adopted pattern. He is armed with a Lee-Enfield Rifle. His belt and cartridge pouches are of the black leather volunteer pattern with an s-hook belt clasp.
A special thank you to Facebook group member Philip Davies for identifying this young soldier's medal.
