This rather kindly visaged old man was a Chaplain of the Volunteer Forces. His cap bears the Chaplain'sDepartment's distinctive cross badge. His frock coat bears the Volunteers Officer's Decoration (established in 1892) which was awarded for 20 years of service in the volunteer forces.
