An outstanding 1/6th plate tintype of a rather determined-looking Canadian militiaman. Although unmarked in any way as was typical of tintypes, the presence of the white foreign service type helmet dates the photo to after the late 1870s.

He is armed with a Snider-Enfield rifle, he carries its ammunition in an older style over-the-shoulder cartridge box. His pack rests on the studio floor.

No badges are visible in the photo but he is clearly wearing tartan trews with indicates his membership in a highland militia battalion, though which one is uncertain.
