Carte de Visite
John W. Poole - Photographer
18 Exchange Street, Colne, Lancashire, England
c. 1900

What sets this image apart is the rather ghostly if not actually creepy male visage looking out from the window behind the apparently unsuspecting soldier. A somewhat cryptic note on
the carte’s reverse side seems to allude to the event:
“I have sneaked this carte of our David’s driver. Sis.”

Perhaps the soldier in question was named David in the photo bomber was the family driver. It is hard to say. Regardless, the photo certainly falls into the strange and unusual category
quite well.

The soldier's collar badges could be those of the 13th Hussars.
