Wearing the ribbons for his Queen's and King.s South Africa Medals, this sergeant of the 2nd Battalion, the Queen's Own (Royal West Kent) Regiment was a veteran of the Anglo-Boer
War. While slightly blurred, his brass shoulder title that reads "R. W. Kent" can just be made out under magnification. After service in South Africa this sergeant along with his battalion
was stationed in Ceylon (Sri Lanka), Hong Kong, and Singapore before arriving in India sometime before 1910.
