Carte de Visite
Unknown Photographer
c. 18

This carte de visite is one of those frustrating images that despite a wealth of information inscribed on its reverse side defies in depth research - at least so far.

The image depicts No. 2565 Private R. Calver of A Company, 51st Regiment of Foot (the King's Own Light Infantry. Nothing regarding Pte. Calver has come to light.

In this photograph he wears the 1868 pattern tunic and his foreign service helmet rests at the base of the decorative studio plinth. The presence of the helmet would seem to indicate that
the photo was taken sometime after the 51st returned to India around 1872. Calver wears one long service stripe on his right cuff indicating two years exemplary service at the time he
was photographed.
