This unnamed private of the 2nd Battalion, Wiltshire Regiment poses for the photographer accompanied by his small dog which is seated on the chair. This image appears not to have been taken in a studio. Note the dirt and wear on the legs of the prop chair. The "floor" appears to be dirt and the photographer has thrown cut branches on the ground to hide the gap between the ground and the painted backdrop. Cabinet Photograph M.
