An unmarked Cabinet Photograph depicting the grave of Band Sergeant A. J. Warren of the 1st Battalion, Gloster Regiment. Inset within the larger photo of Sergeant Warren grave is a smaller image of Sergeant Warren himself. He seems to be wearing the ribbon of the India General Service Medal.
The photograph seem to have been taken in a South African cemetery sometime after the end of the Anglo-Boer War. The numerous bright white crosses scattered throughout the cemetery are all probably the grave of fellow soldiers. The photograph seems to have been taken while it was raining - not the water strains running down the face of the large to the right of Warren's monument and the seemingly muddy ground.
Below in an enlarged detail of Sergeant Warren which reveals the mouth piece of his clarinet.
