| Identified as Frank Smith by a period inscription on the reverse of this photograph it is uncertain if he was indeed a military cyclist or simply posing with the overt symbol of a favorite pastime. His rank it that of a private but his regiment will probably remain a mystery. Following his name on the reverse is the statement "believed killed in the Boer War".
