
| Lt. The Honorable Conway S. G. Canning of the 60th Rifles/Kings Royal Rifle Corps. Canning participated in the Gordon Relief Expedition of 1884/5 in the Sudan. Later he again saw active service during the Hazara Campaign of 1891, the Isazai Expedition of 1892 and South Africa. An article in the 7 December, 1881 edition of The Times mentions Lt. Canning arriving back in Portsmouth, England on board the Malabar which had sailed from Bombay calling at Aden, Port Said, Malta and finaly Queenstown, Ireland. He was promoted Captain on 31 January, 1885. On 18 April, 1885 the above promotion was antedated to 26 November, 1884. Captain Canning retired from active service on 28 December, 1894. On 24 April, 1900 Canning was appointed Captain, Reserve of Officers, Royal Rifles Reserve Regiment. He served with the KRRC in South Africa and returned to England a board the steamship St. Andrew in 1902. Captain Canning was promted Major in the Reserve of Officers 18 October, 1902. Canning received the rank of Honorary Major in the 5th Battalion, KRRC on 4 November, 1902 Major Conway S. G. Canning died in February, 1926 and was intered at St. Albans.
