| A rare hand colored portrait of an unidentified private that has been beautifully hand colored by the photographic studio. Unfortunately this same coloring has obscured the regimental color badges that would have helped in positively identifying this soldier's regiment. The cap badge seem to indicate a light infantry regiment and this coupled with the blue tunic facings and the Bristol location make me believe that this man was a member of The Somersetshire "Prince Albert's Light Infantry" Regiment. The has been minor loss to the scarlet coloring to the soldiers tunic. Cabinet Photograph J.M. Butler late A & G Taylor - Photographer 1 Baldwin Street, Bristol, England c. 1890's |
