A mounted member of the Kaiser's Schutztruppen for German South-west Africa - Schutztruppe für Deutsch
Südwest Afrika
. The reverse of the photograph bears the stamp of photographer A. Stephan of Paarl, Cape Colony.
Inside the stamped garter is a German inscription stating that the photograph was taken in commemoration the
rebellion in German Southwest Africa in 1905. The overall condition of this photograph gives it the impression of
having been carried in this trooper's saddlebag during the rebellion or perhaps it simply bears the marks of having
survived the devastation of World War II Germany.
