| This early image depicts an un-named private of a Bavarian Landstrum Infantry unit taken sometime in the 1890's He is armed with the 1888 pattern Commission rifle which was the predecessor of the Kar -98 Mauser Rifle. The Landstrum were something akin to a veteran reserve corps made up of older men and veterans. His oilskin cap cover and non-regulation tunic indicate this.
