| Taken most likely during the Philippine Insurrection that followed the American occupation of those islands after the close of the Spanish-American War of 1898. Although these two 8th Corps soldiers are probably volunteers as they are still armed with the outdated single shot 45/70 Springfield Trapdoor rifles - the new 30/40 Krag bolt action rifles still being in short supply. They both appear to be wearing light marching order equipment and uniforms. Their regiment is uncertain but the Corps designation is evident by the small badge on the hat of the soldier on the left.
