A very early Carte de Visite photograph of a veteran of the Gwalior Campaign in India of 1843 and the Crimean War. He wears the Gwalior Star which was awarded to members of Her Majesty's forces and those of the Honorable East India Company for participation in either the Battle of Maharajpoor or the Battle of Punniar. Both battle were fought on 29 December 1843. Bronze from captured guns was used in the manufacture of these stars.
