The heir to the Bonaparte throne of France, Louis Napoleon went into exile in England after his father Napoleon III
Military Academy at Woolwich. It is in the uniform of a cadet of that institution that he appears here. He gained
permission to join Lord Chelmsford's command as an observer during the Anglo-Zulu War and while on a scouting
mission was ambushed and killed near the Ityotyosi River.

I originally believed that this image as a cut down Cabinet Photograph but upon close examination it appears to
have been die-cut by the photographer for framing.
