| An unidentified trooper of the 9th Queen's Royal Lancers taken in Umballa, India sometime in the mid 1880's possible soon after the soldier was presented with his double clasp Afghanistan War medal and Kabul to Kandahar Star. During the Afghan War the 9th Lancers were under command of Lt. Colonel H. A. Bushman and formed part of the Cavalry Division under General Hugh Henry Gough. As indicated by the Kabul to Kandahar Star worn by this trooper, the 9th took part in General Robert's the march from Kabul to the relief of Kandahar and in the defeat of Ayub Khan on 1 September, 1880.
