|1/6th Plate Tintype (Ferrotype)
Wearing a fur cap, a Canadian variation of the standard British 1877 pattern tunic and tartan trewes this rather grim looking Canadian militiaman was probably a member of a militia
battalion with Scottish affiliations, possibly a light infantry unit. The photographic plat is completely unmarked as is usually the case so narrowing down its precise origins is almost
impossible. Based on the man;s 1877 pattern tunic it postdates the Fenian Raids by several years but this man may well have seen action during the 1885 North-West Rebellion. The
man's tunic is without collar badges as was typical of Canadian militia battalions at the time.
